Calcium · redox · production hormonale

Two registries, two version numbers. The 34 bounded records follow the FieldState v2 measurement specification and attach to named nodes of the BERM v17 causal graph; each states its field class, directness, translation scope and calibration role. The 150 extended catalogue entries are the earlier A–F pathway bibliography, kept for source-level review and carried over to the same graph nodes where the source permits. "v2" is the version of the measurement specification; "v17" is the version of the model whose country predictions are published.

Why directional attenuation requires a second model

Several identified design and interpretation mechanisms can move an estimated EMF effect toward zero: exposure misclassification, contaminated baselines, mediator adjustment, mismatched windows and publication or model-selection rules. Their joint direction does not by itself prove a cognitive cause. It does create a separate explanatory target. BERM composes limited access to causal antecedents, motivated reasoning and omitted-variable structure into a testable account of why downstream narratives can be preferred to an unmeasured biological state. [L*]

The account predicts two discriminating results: evidence thresholds should change when identical results receive different causal framings, and measured biological state should add out-of-sample information beyond reported reasons and socioeconomic controls. Failure of both predictions rejects this extension. [L*]

Long-term exposure to 4G smartphone RF-EMR diminished male reproductive potential by directly disrupting Spock3-MMP2-BTB axis. Sci Total Environi

First direct demonstration of BTB disruption by telecom-frequency RF. Long-term 2605 MHz (4G) exposure gradually damaged spermatogenesis via the Spock3-MMP2-BTB axis. The BTB uses the same tight junction proteins (occludin, ZO-1) as the BBB. Validates extending BERM pathway F (BBB multiplier) to a Biological Barrier Multiplier covering both BBB and BTB. Time-dependent toxicity consistent with positive feedback.

2019ERepeated component finding / endpointSuperseded by a curated evidence relation

Ulusoy A et al. (2025). Acute exposure to 27.12 MHz RF-EMF disrupts BBB integrity via eNOS activation and occludin down-regulation. Int J Basic Med Scii

30 min RF-EMF at 27.12 MHz significantly increased eNOS gene expression and decreased occludin — without oxidative stress or inflammation. Longer exposures (180, 360 min) produced HIF-1a increase, claudin-1 and occludin decrease, and histopathological edema. Confirms the BBB opening mechanism is TJ-protein mediated (occludin, claudin-1) — the same proteins as in BTB. The eNOS pathway is non-thermal and non-oxidative at short exposures.

Nature Communications (2026). All four voltage-sensing domains of human CaV3.1 activate within a narrow voltage range near resting membrane potential.i

T-type channels are maximally sensitive NEAR resting potential (-70 to -50 mV) — the exact voltage range where EMF-induced perturbations (via Schwan equation) are largest. This is the bifurcation amplifier that resolves BERM's dVm problem.

Xiang C et al. (2025). T-type VGCC inhibition reduces testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells. Reproduction (Oxford). doi:10.1530/REP-24-0432i

Completes the Lindgren-to-testosterone chain: EMF -> Schwan dVm -> T-type Cav3 activation -> Ca2+ -> StAR -> cholesterol transport -> testosterone. Elevates pathway D from 'Not derived' to 'Derived via T-type bifurcation.'

2025ERepeated component finding / endpointMigration candidate

Ma T et al. (2026). Cav1 and Cav3 are both essential for spermatogenesis. Andrology. doi:10.1111/andr.70119i

Both L-type AND T-type channels are required for spermatogenesis. EMF perturbation of T-type window current provides a mechanism for chronic, low-level disruption of spermatocyte development without requiring high-intensity L-type activation.

Jimenez et al. (2019): tumour-specific AM-RF-EMF at 27.12 MHz induces HCC differentiation via Cav3.2; FDA HDE approval followed in 2023 (H220001).i

Protocol-specific component evidence for a 27.12 MHz amplitude-modulated Cav3.2 route in HCC. The 2023 HDE establishes probable benefit for a rare-disease device, not randomized effectiveness; environmental, reproductive and population transfer remains open.

Cross-Disorder Group of the PGC. Lancet (2013): CACNA1C identified as shared risk locus across ASD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, major depression, and schizophrenia in genome-wide analysis of 33,332 cases and 27,888 controls.i

CACNA1C encodes L-type VGCC Cav1.2 — the same channel through which EMF effects are mediated (pathway A). Genetic variants that alter channel gating change the individual's chi_channel, predicting differential EMF sensitivity. Not a direct EMF study — establishes that VGCC variants modulate psychiatric risk, supporting the gene × environment prediction.

2013ERepeated component finding / endpoint61220Migration candidate

Splawski I et al. Cell (2004): G406R gain-of-function mutation in CACNA1C (Cav1.2) causes Timothy syndrome with autism in 80% of affected individuals — highest penetrance of any syndromic ASD form.i

Direct proof that excessive Ca2+ influx through a single VGCC gene is sufficient to cause autism. The mechanism (too much calcium → disrupted neurodevelopment) parallels BERM's prediction that chronic EMF-induced Ca2+ elevation during neurodevelopment → similar but milder effects. Timothy syndrome is a RARE de novo mutation — significance is mechanistic, not epidemiological.

2004ERepeated component finding / endpointMigration candidate

Bhatt DK et al. PLOS Genetics (2019): Timothy syndrome gain-of-function mutation in Cav1.2 homolog disrupts axon targeting and behaviour through interaction with selective autophagy genes.i

Identifies the cellular mechanism through which excessive VGCC Ca2+ causes autism: axon targeting errors → misplaced synapses → circuit defects → behavioural phenotype. EMF-induced chronic Ca2+ elevation could produce similar, milder axon targeting errors during critical neurodevelopmental periods.

2019ERepeated component finding / endpointMigration candidate

Various GWAS (2012): Two SNPs in CACNA1G (rs757415, rs12603112), encoding T-type calcium channel Cav3.1, are associated with autism spectrum disorder.i

Connects BERM's T-type bifurcation mechanism directly to neurodevelopmental disorders. T-type channels operate at the bifurcation point near resting potential → maximally sensitive to EMF perturbation. Individuals with CACNA1G risk variants have altered T-type gating → altered chi_channel → differential prenatal EMF sensitivity.

2012M|CMechanism + associationMigration candidate

BRPM → CRY → circadian disruption

BERM argument #200: LED lighting EMF component. LED switch-mode power supplies produce 20–200 kHz EMF with harmonics. Studies attributing LED health effects to blue light (Tosini 2016) did not control for EMF. No separation experiment exists.i

LED bulbs produce both blue light and kHz-range EMF; incandescent bulbs produce neither. Any study comparing LED to incandescent cannot separate spectral from electromagnetic effects. TTFields (FDA-approved, 100–300 kHz) confirms biological activity of these frequencies. BERM-identified research gap.

BERM argument #204: CRT→LCD/LED display transition (2005–2015) multiplied household EMF. Screen count 1→3.5, bedroom penetration 15%→70%, built-in Wi-Fi added, viewing distance decreased.i

Display transition was a multiplicative EMF change: count × size × bedroom penetration × Wi-Fi × hours × proximity. Bedroom TV at 1.5–2m from pineal gland during melatonin window produces simultaneous blue light + EMF. BERM circadian weighting (2.5×) amplifies this. No single-factor analysis captures the multiplicative effect.

Iversen JN et al. (2025). Magnetically Stimulated Myogenesis Recruits a CRY2-TRPC1 Photosensitive Signaling Axis. Cells 14(3):231i

CRY2 physically interacts with TRPC1 (a TRP channel, NOT a VGCC) and the complex co-translocates to the nucleus after PEMF exposure. This gives pathway B (CRY/RPM) a second downstream branch: calcium signaling via TRPC1, independent of pathway A (VGCC). Blocked by CRY2 silencing, darkness, and RFK silencing — all RPM hallmarks. NOT blocked by L-type VGCC blockers (nifedipine), confirming pharmacological separability from pathway A. Demonstrated in myoblasts; gonadal cell confirmation pending (prediction TRPC1-1).

Boyes et al. (2021, Science Advances): LED streetlights reduced moth caterpillar abundance by 47% vs unlit sites. Pawson & Bader (2014): LED traps captured 48% more insects than sodium.i

LED streetlights cause greater insect mortality than sodium lamps. Conventionally attributed to light spectrum, but LEDs also emit kHz EMF from drivers. BERM predicts the EMF component contributes independently. Street LED deployment (2012+) overlaps temporally with accelerating insect decline.

BERM argument #202: NEXRAD deployment (1988–1997) at S-band (2.7 GHz ≈ Wi-Fi) temporally coincides with Hallmann insect biomass data onset (1989). Thielens 2018: insect RF absorption resonates at these frequencies.i

159 NEXRAD stations deployed 1988–1997 at 250 kW–1 MW peak power, 2.7–3.0 GHz (S-band). Hallmann's −76% insect biomass dataset begins 1989. S-band wavelength (λ/2 ≈ 5.4 cm) matches large flying insect body size, producing resonant absorption. Protected nature reserves are not shielded from radar signals.

Wind turbines produce EMF in bat habitats. Lindecke 2026 shows RF disrupts bat compass for hours. BERM predicts: compass-disrupted bats near turbines have elevated collision risk. This mechanistic link (EMF → disorientation → mortality) is independent of direct blade-strike explanations.

BERM argument #205: Satellite constellations (Starlink 6000+, OneWeb, Kuiper) as predictive test. BERM predicts measurable effects on migratory species by 2030.i

Satellite constellations represent a new EMF layer with unique properties: global coverage, independent of national policy, ground-based infrastructure not required. BERM predicts: migratory species using magnetic compass (birds, bats, sea turtles) will show measurable behavioral effects as constellation density increases. Novel and falsifiable.

r = 0,84Gradient EMF inter-espèces (7 espèces)

Recent bioelectromagnetics studies (2024–2026) provide mechanistic refinement across BERM causal chain levels 3–6. Three priority sources strengthen the multi-pathway Ca²⁺ disruption model, add 5G-frequency-specific reproductive data, and quantify melatonin suppression. Two high-quality null results in skin cells support tissue-specificity rather than contradicting EMF effects.

Intracellular Ca²⁺ Store Mechanism (Bertagna 2025)

E

Bertagna et al. 2025 exposed mouse CA1 neurons to 50 Hz, 1 mT for 60 minutes and reported reduced inward and transient outward currents. Interfering with RyR release or SERCA reuptake removed those effects. This localizes a coupled calcium-store mechanism in the stated ELF setting. It motivates separate measurements of initial calcium, ER-store state and subsequent membrane current rather than two independent pathway weights.

5G Testicular ROS & CoQ10 Rescue (Bektas 2026)

C

Bektas et al. 2026 (Bioelectromagnetics) — Rats exposed to 3.5 GHz (5G core frequency). Testicular and oxidative damage observed. CoQ10 supplementation ameliorated damage — demonstrates mechanism reversibility, consistent with recovery window concept. First 5G-frequency-specific testicular data. Tissue-specific: same frequency shows no ROS in skin cells (cf. Meyer 2026, Haidar 2025).

Melatonin Suppression: PRISMA Systematic Review (Tbahriti 2026)

M|C

Tbahriti et al. 2026 (Sleep Biol Rhythms 24(2):195-214) — PRISMA 2020: 55 studies from 892 screened. 88% of high-quality animal studies report EMF-induced melatonin suppression (20–50% from baseline). Suppression smaller than light-induced (>90%), consistent with EMF as one component of nocturnal disruption. Limitation: only 27% of studies met high methodological standards.

Tissue-Specific Null Results

Meyer et al. 2026 (ELF 50 Hz, 200 µT, HaCaT keratinocytes — no DNA damage, p=0.644/0.987) and Haidar et al. 2025 (5G-modulated 3.5 GHz, SAR 0.08–4 W/kg, fibroblasts/keratinocytes — no ROS, no DNA damage). These null results motivate an imported L3 tissue-response candidate χ_tissue; they do not by themselves establish gonadal primacy, validate χ_geo, or identify the open L0→L2 mapping.

BBB Disruption via Tight Junction Degradation (Gao 2024)

C

Gao et al. 2024 (Bioelectromagnetics) — Electromagnetic pulse caused BBB breakdown through tight junction protein (occludin, claudin, ZO-1) degradation. Important: EMP (high-amplitude, short-duration) differs from chronic low-intensity RF. Mechanistic relevance: same molecular target as Salford 2003. Supports pathway E.

Hormèse et activation biologique

Four independent research lines converge on a hormetic dose-response pattern: low electromagnetic exposure correlates with biological activation, while chronic high exposure correlates with suppression. The evidence spans experimental, genetic, epidemiological, and neuroendocrine domains.

Expérimental : hormèse par faible dose de radiation

Low-dose ionizing radiation produces adaptive responses including enhanced DNA repair, mitochondrial activation, and immune stimulation. Liu (1989) documented testosterone increase and cortisol decrease in animal models. Kostyuk et al. (2021) demonstrated mitochondrial gene activation in human stem cells. Yang et al. (2016) showed ATM-mediated DNA repair activation in normal (not cancer) cells. Zhou et al. (2018) confirmed immune activation via NK cell expansion. These findings establish a hormetic framework: low-dose stress activates repair systems, while high-dose stress overwhelms them.

Ionizing-radiation adaptation anchors repair biology in its own dose class. RF preconditioning with an autophagy intervention supplies a closer field-specific comparison; the two exposures do not share an assumed dose scale.

Génétique : aptitude contextuelle DRD4/7R

Eisenberg et al. (2008) studied DRD4/7R polymorphism in Ariaal pastoralists of northern Kenya (n=152). The same allele was associated with higher BMI (better nutritional status) in nomadic Ariaal but lower BMI in settled Ariaal. This gene-environment interaction is consistent with biological activation under low-infrastructure conditions and mismatch under settled conditions.

The observed genotype–environment association motivates a context-dependent functional model. Settlement and BMI do not measure a local electromagnetic dose or a genotype-specific field coefficient.

Épidémiologique : gradient de santé à la sédentarisation

Swanson et al. (2023) measured cardiometabolic indicators in semi-nomadic pastoralists in Kenya. Settlement was associated with worse blood pressure and BMI compared to more nomadic individuals within the same population. The settlement gradient isolates lifestyle change from genetic confounders.

Neuroendocrinien : divergence cortisol urbain-suburbain

Mayagoitia-Novales et al. (2023) compared cortisol and testosterone responses between urban and suburban citizens. Urban citizens showed higher cortisol reactivity and altered testosterone response patterns. The urban environment is associated with heightened stress-axis activation.

Separate hormone amount from pulse timing and tissue receptivity. A prospective urban comparison should measure local fields, sleep, social stressors and the received endocrine response before assigning an environmental mechanism.

BERM represents beneficial adaptation, impaired reception and injury as distinguishable state trajectories. The sign is tested with baseline function, repair and a defined challenge; “hormesis” does not select the explanation after the outcome is known.

The Saturation Anomaly: fertility after diffusion is finished

M|C

A purely behavioural account of the fertility decline carries a testable ceiling. If the mechanism is that smartphones displaced the time in which conception happens, then once nearly everyone has one the displacement is complete, and the decline should level off. Diffusion is a bounded process; the effect it drives cannot outrun it. This is the sharpest available discriminator between an account that runs entirely through adoption and one that carries a component still accumulating after adoption stops.

Saturation is dated per country as the first year the model's smartphone penetration reaches 95% of its own 2024 ceiling — diffusion essentially complete relative to where that country ended up. Fifteen countries saturated at least five years before 2024. The response is the total fertility rate in the saturation year against 2024.

USA20181.721.63−5.1%
United Kingdom20191.631.55−5.0%
Singapore20180.950.97+2.4%

Eleven of the fifteen saturated countries are shown; the four omitted (Norway, Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates) all fall between −7.3% and −5.4%. Fourteen of fifteen declined, median −7.5%. Fertility rates are World Population Prospects values from the model's own annual panel.

The decline did not level off. Fourteen of the fifteen countries kept falling for five to six years after diffusion was effectively over, and South Korea — the earliest to saturate — fell fastest of all, more than a fifth in six years. The single exception is Singapore, which was already at 0.95 when it saturated and has held there since: a floor, not a recovery.

The dual-kernel framework reads this as the slow arm continuing after the fast one has run out of room. Cumulative exposure keeps rising once adoption stops, because usage intensity, simultaneous band count and night-time proximity all keep growing after the device count no longer can. The reading is consistent with the pattern but does not establish it: a behavioural account with a stock adjustment — intensity rising after ownership saturates, or cohorts entering with a lifetime of exposure behind them — predicts a post-saturation decline as well, and this test does not separate the two.

Mechanistic reading plus population-level association. The pattern is measured across fifteen countries; alternative explanations are not excluded.

The Fertility Gap as a measurement of the slow arm

M

There is a second discriminator, cleaner in principle than the saturation test. Displacement and capacity make opposite predictions about what people say they want. If the mechanism is that time and partnering were displaced, intended family size should fall alongside realised fertility — people who are not partnering do not plan the children they are not having. If the mechanism is that reproductive capacity declined, intention should hold while realisation falls, and the gap between them should widen with cumulative exposure.

The gap is therefore the framework's most direct proposed handle on the slow kernel: a quantity that separates wanting from achieving, measured on the same populations that carry the exposure history. Its growth rate rather than its level is the estimand, because the level is confounded by everything that has always separated stated ideals from outcomes.

The model does not yet hold this series. Realised fertility comes from the annual panel already in the repository; intended and ideal family size do not, and would have to be assembled from Eurobarometer, the World Values Survey and the Demographic and Health Surveys, which use different instruments and different age ranges. Until that series exists the fertility gap is a specified test with no result, and nothing here should be read as reporting one.

Mechanistic intermediate. The reasoning is specified; the measurement has not been made.

BERM v17

Statistical status and validation boundary

BERM v17 separates a descriptive timing pattern, a biological endpoint and a population effect. The validation status states what is required to test the active route.

DESCRIPTIVE COHORT SIGNAL

ASFR cohort-route readiness

V2 does not publish age-specific country forecasts until measured FieldState, an organ-specific biological endpoint, couple state and ASFR can be joined on the same cohort-time axis.

Descriptive finding: WPP 2024 ASFR + World Bank/ITU mobile subscriptions, 2000–2023, N = 163, Pearson r = −0.66645 between a young-minus-older cohort timing proxy and ASFR change.

The result is not FieldState, exposure dose, a biological effect estimate or a TFR coefficient. Region, income and demographic structure remain material alternative explanations.

Next analysis: a preregistered matched panel collecting FieldState and biomarkers before evaluating the ASFR endpoint.

What v2 validation requires

  1. 01A pre-specified measured FieldState: B₀, spectrum/PSD, phase/coherence, position, organ transfer and provenance.
  2. 02A registered organ-specific endpoint and parameters with visible directness and translation scope.
  3. 03Couple state plus age-specific ASFR, with demand, tempo and ART terms reported separately.
  4. 04An externally locked temporal prediction or replication; TFR is derived only after ASFR.
